Office of Force Transformation

Created: Fri Apr 24Updated: Tue Sep 15

Overview

The Office of Force Transformation is a Pentagon organization responsible for designing and implementing rapid integration of new capabilities across military services. Project Sheriff represents one of its initiatives to accelerate deployment of combined lethal/nonlethal weapons systems.

Mission Philosophy

"A goal of the Office of Force Transformation is to cut through the years and years it used to take the department to introduce a new system, he said, while assuring that the technology employed is well-studied and the office is not sacrificing safety for the sake of speed."

Program Leadership

  • Director: Col. Wade Hall (23-year Marine Corps veteran)
  • Role: Transformation strategist and program director for Project Sheriff

Strategic Approach

The Office prioritizes retrofitting existing inventory systems over developing entirely new platforms, emphasizing cost-effectiveness and rapid deployment:

> "The equipment already in the inventory is the best in the world, it's just insufficiently versatile for the incredibly wide-ranging missions our armed forces must accomplish. Retrofitting existing systems is not only cheaper but it should get the troops the tools they need much more quickly than starting from scratch."

Cross-Service Integration

The Office coordinates across Army and Marine Corps to ensure unified capability development.
