Robert Jacobs Vandenberg ICBM Film

Created: Fri Apr 24Updated: Fri Apr 24

Overview

Testimony of Professor Robert Jacobs (U.S. Air Force) regarding a 1964 optical instrumentation film of an ICBM launch at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Jacobs, officer in charge of optical instrumentation for the 1369th photo squadron, filmed a dummy nuclear warhead traveling at 11,000–14,000 mph. A saucer-shaped craft (two cupped saucers with a ping-pong ball dome) emitted a beam of light at the warhead from four different angles before it tumbled out of space. The film was shown to Jacobs and Major Florence J. Mansmann Jr., who ordered a cover-up, instructing Jacobs to claim it was "laser strikes" if forced to speak. The film was spooled, cut, and taken by unidentified government agents (explicitly not CIA) and never returned. Jacobs remained silent for 18 years before public disclosure, facing harassment, early morning screaming phone calls, and a mailbox explosion. Corroborated by Major Mansmann's 1987 letter confirming film quality, CIA attendance, and event details.
