Home/entities/project-blue-fly-moon-dust Overview
Project Blue Fly and Project Moon Dust were US Air Force peacetime programs dedicated to the recovery and analysis of non-Earthly objects. These programs operated outside the public eye of Project Blue Book, focusing specifically on retrieving crashed extraterrestrial craft and debris.
Origins & Command Structure
General Douglas MacArthur organized the Interplanetary Phenomena Research Unit in 1943 to study non-human visitors observing WWII. It was later taken over by General Marshall. The 4602nd Air Intelligence Service Squadron initially handled Blue Fly, which focused on recovering objects that impacted Earth. In 1957, it expanded to cover all unknown origin spacecraft under Moon Dust.
Recovery Protocols
Recoveries utilized NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) teams deployed under standard hazardous material protocols. Teams conducted on-site analysis to verify non-human origin, packaging debris carefully for transport. A code word "Tabasco" was used for shipping documents and tracking vehicles equipped with 800 numbers for immediate assistance.
ET Craft Handling & Biological Contamination
Specialized teams handled craft to prevent biological contamination. The craft were described as flawed, mortal-made machines requiring careful handling. Recoveries were rare; ETs sometimes retrieved craft before US teams arrived, sending distress signals when damaged.
Strategic Implications
The programs operated under Special Access Programs, keeping information from Congress. The focus was on acquiring advanced technology for military application while monitoring ETs' scientific/humanitarian purposes. The secrecy aimed to prevent public panic but inadvertently caused witness trauma.
