Overview

The Human Systems Community of Interest (HS Col) is a Defense Science and Technology organization focused on developing technologies to enable, sustain, enhance, and quantify human performance in military operations.

Vision: Develop/deliver technologies to enable, sustain, enhance & quantify human performance

Mission: Enhance the warfighter through:
1. Integrated sims for mission training & experimentation
2. Human-machine designs for mission effectiveness
3. Assessment of operator effectiveness
4. Operating through battlespace stresses
5. Mastering the PMESII (Political, Military, Economic, Social, Information, Infrastructure) battle space

Recent Activities (August 2022)

  • NDIA Human Systems Conference (June 15-16): 107 participants from government, industry, and academia; featured presentations on data use in DoD, AI/human-machine teaming, and Col roadmap updates.
  • Col Information Exchange with OSD: July briefing by Dr. Mason to S&T Executive Committee assessing technology investment portfolio and future opportunities.
  • OSD Seedling Proposal Data Call (June): HS Col submitted proposal "Operationalizing Brain Machine Interface to Enable Human Machine Teaming"; announcement expected August 23, 2022.
  • Col Annual Meeting: Scheduled October 26-27, 2022 in Arlington as hybrid event with Steering Committee panel, service portfolio reviews, and stakeholder engagement.
