Clinical Case Study (Lin 2021)
Patient: 43-year-old male under Department of State assignment in Guangzhou
Symptoms developed after exposure:
- Progressively worsening headaches
- Dizziness
- Auditory/vestibular symptoms
- Balance problems
- Difficulty sleeping
- Cognitive/emotional complaints
Long-term outcome (2+ years post-exposure): Patient remains symptomatic but significantly improved compared to medically evacuated state. Continues to report fatigue plus ocular and vestibular issues.
National Academies Assessment (2020)
The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine examined possible causes of illnesses in government employees at overseas embassies and concluded:
> "Among the mechanisms the study committee considered, the most plausible mechanism to explain these cases, especially in individuals with distinct early symptoms, appears to be directed, pulsed microwave energy."
